ON REPEAT

On Repeat was our digital programme in 2023. It was curated by artist Sophie Lindsey, and ran throughout May 2023. It shared work from six artists in a series of online exhibitions, events, and interventions.

Repetition is an inevitable part of living. It can be both comforting and frustrating. Something we look for, while simultaneously trying to escape. 

Creative work also has this tension, with repetition taking place in the creation of multiple editions, the daily admin, or in the process itself. But it also gets abandoned, sometimes impulsively in moments of inspiration, in fluctuations of energy and motivation, or simply because of competing priorities. 

Some ideas and projects, that were once all consuming, get transformed into storage. Tucked away in digital filing systems, collecting metaphorical dust as our time and energy goes elsewhere.

For On Repeat we asked artists to delve into their archives to bring past work to the surface, to consider what it means to share it now. The result was a collection of work from the recent past by artists Amy Wright, Beth Fox, Marianne Vieules, Simon the Last, Sophie Broadgate, and Ting-Ting Cheng.

Through work that explored medical procedures, sports fandom, space travel, self acceptance, crypto crashes, and endless swimming, On Repeat brought existing work together in a new digital configuration, to question the need for constant production.
