Many people are concerned about climate change but don’t know where to start. This role will provide the support for people who want to make a difference. The Low Carbon Grants Lead will help community members to access financial support, and be part of the solution.

The Low Carbon Barrow grants programme has £225,000 to distribute to businesses and organisations in Barrow-in-Furness. We want to invest in CO2 reduction, working with our community to demonstrate ideas and behaviours to reduce CO2 emissions, and empower people to play their part in a low carbon future. You’ll work with our local community to ensure they have access to grants, and support the application process.

These could include a simple energy audit, the installation of alternative power sources, innovative recycling practises or retrofitting interventions to reduce power consumption. It’s about reducing carbon emissions. If you’re passionate about a low carbon future, we want to hear from you. Read more about the Low Carbon Barrow programme.

Who are you?

You’ll be comfortable with a temporary flexible contract, perhaps you are looking to reduce your hours or move from an office based 9-5 environment.

We see the huge difference COVID-19 has made to our working practises, and so flexible working will be accommodated, in addition the virtual meeting can help us reduce our carbon footprint. There will be a need to travel to Barrow-in-Furness, however we want you to manage that process, and are willing to negotiate the best solution for all.

What skills will you have?

You’ll be required to work with public sector funding, so being comfortable in that environment is essential.

You’ll have a commitment to the Climate Action agenda, not necessarily a guru in the technical side but with the ability to seek advice from professionals, challenge and query.

You’ll be able to work independently, and communicate with a range of businesses of all sectors, community groups and colleagues. Support is available from the Low Carbon Barrow team, however you’ll take the lead on developing and managing the grants programme.

You’re experienced with numbers, spreadsheets, budgets and the requirements of funders. You’ll have good administrative skills and the ability to translate guidance into reality.

You may have some indirect experience in construction, engineering or design, to add input on practical Low Carbon investments. You don’t need to be an expert, but you’ll be helping our community to demonstrate low carbon lifestyles. You’ll be able to take initiative, research and assist applicants, be a pragmatist who can problem solve.

Lastly you’ll want to make this work. Low Carbon Barrow can make a difference, and we are seeking a Low Carbon Grants lead who can commit to that, with a true belief in supporting CO2 reductions.
