Art Gene’s Landscape Working Party coordinated by Barrovian and Ecologist Eve Mulholland, is a friends and volunteer group dedicated to exploring, enhancing and reinvigorating the green spaces in and around the Barrow Borough.
“Barrow is a unique town set amongst an incredible landscape. There’s great potential in our local area and so much to explore!” said Eve Mulholland, Coastal Team Landscape Engagement Coordinator
The Landscape Working Party offers opportunities for locals to discover and understand our diverse local environment, learn new skills and meet others. It also provides the chance to get involved in propagating and distributing local wildflower species throughout the Borough: creating green corridors throughout the town for both people and wildlife to enjoy.
To promote the project and our upcoming activities the Landscape Working Party comprising of Art Gene staff, volunteers and participants, were rattling their banners at Barrow Carnival Parade last Saturday. Dressed as WW2 Land Girls walking alongside the mascot Land Rover float and ‘creatures’. The banners symbolized a call to action for a change in how we interact with our green and built up spaces in Barrow, in the hopes of invigorating the town’s interest with our unique landscape and wildlife.

“It was brilliant seeing the Landscape Working Party team marching up Abbey Road as Land Girls in the parade, waving our banners! We flyered the crowds with our Summer Programme and handed out Nasturtium seeds for people to grow on their windowsills! A great visual call to action for our town!” says Rachel Capovila, fellow Barrovian, Art Gene and Coastal Team project Manager.
