Harvest Celebration

Saturday 14th August 2019

 

Join us on the Isle of Walney Community Growing Space to celebrate by bringing in the harvest and planting for the Spring, with Allotment Soup artist in residence Hannah Brackston!

 

 

2pm – 5pm : Colossal courgettes and buckets of blackberries.

An afternoon of cropping and gathering produce from the communal growing areas on the field. We will look at some traditional and unusual ways to store fruit, vegetables and herbs for use over the coming months for you to take home and try. Learn about what grows throughout the winter by helping us plant out our newly turned beds with a final sewing of seeds and bulbs for the spring.

5pm onwards : Celebration of people, produce and a compost toilet…

Come along to see what we have achieved over the last year through our Allotment Soup and Re-wilding Barrow projects. Join us to cook and eat some delicious food grown on the field and in making a toast to all the hard work of the last year, with the addition of a few modern takes on harvest traditions… We will chat about plans for the year ahead, and we will be declaring our brand new compost toilet officially open with the cutting of a ribbon!

 

Free event. All tools and equipment provided.

Suitable for all ages.
