Join us for the last of our Extreme Views event days at North Scale on Walney Island!

WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS SPECIAL ABOUT WALNEY, AND HOW COULD IT BE EVEN BETTER?

Come along to the Extreme Views event at North Scale in Walney on Sunday 17th March! We’ll be meeting at 11am for a guided walk led by wildlife specialist Pete Burton who will be discussing the flora and fauna of the area. There’ll also be short talks from local experts on the history of the area. We’ll also discuss the important features of these sites and their potential futures along the way, returning to the site for around 12.30pm. .

If you don’t want to attend the walk please feel free to meet us at the event site, we will arrive there at around 12.30pm. On arrival at the event there’ll be the opportunity to learn more about the history of the area, everyone can share their views, eat free hot homecooked food by our chef Mari Ryan, share ideas and memories, identify the challenges and propose solutions. You’ll also be able to view artworks by artists-in-residence Louise Adkins and Clara Casian, and John Osborne from Natural England will be setting up telescopes and sharing his knowledge on local birdlife.

You will be invited to speak for 60 seconds from the Extreme Views soapbox tower (and contribute written views anonymously) about your feelings and vision for the future of our area. What do you value about North Scale and Walney, and what do you think could improve it? Does it need toilets or picnic areas? A telescope? More organised walks and events? Get up on the soapbox and have your say!

When you arrive at the event please follow the signs which will guide you to either the start of the walk or the event site.

For the walk meet at North Scale Car Park, The Promenade, Walney Island, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 3RW.

For the event meet on the shore at the end of Teasdale Road, LA14 3SE.

We are recommending everyone wear suitable clothing and footwear for the site which is uneven and can get muddy, and for potential wet/ windy weather conditions.
