Extreme Views Artists’ Residency Call out
DEADLINE NOW EXTENDED TO FRI 10 AUG 2018 6PM
Art Gene are pleased to offer two great opportunities for experienced and enthusiastic visual artists for the Extreme Views Project 2018. The right people will have an understanding of working with communities and socially engaged arts with a practice that spans exhibiting and project work in the environment.
The Extreme Views artist-in-residence and Extreme Views Digital artist-in-residence are both opportunities for an artist or collective who will work in residence from the studios at Art Gene, in Barrow-in-Furness. The artists’ roles will be to act as an instigator in the Extreme Views Think Tank processes and Extreme Views Tower events. Ideally the artists will be aware of global community environmental politics and the processes that affect change and their work will entail public artistic interventions.
About The Project
Extreme Views is Art Gene’s four year, project to examine the collisions of art, industry and nature in the social landscape, across Cumbria, Lancashire, England’s North West and internationally.
As the borough of Barrow-in-Furness is again ranked first of all English Boroughs for the quality and number of its natural heritage assets, on the RSA Heritage Index, we take this amazing fact and bring it together with the extreme health, and wellbeing problems of the area we are 5th worst nationally, and link the communities to their landscapes through our Extreme Views programme.
In this time of extreme change art and artists need to take a stand, act and deliver strategically, effect change locally, work with the mechanisms of local government, and make a difference to the lives and landscapes of England’s largest isolated coastal community.
Art Gene’s Extreme Views acts as conflict resolver: examining opposing, visual, perceptual, physical, environmental societal and political extreme views. Delivering artworks, from digital apps to artist’s sheds, portable sculpture to Extreme Viewing exhibitions.
The work builds on the company’s strategic vision, for the Northwest, but has a wider national resonance and relevance. Extreme Views supports artists in all their diversity, at each stage of their career, engages communities in some of the most deprived areas of the country, as the matter of change, in making and shaping their place, developing and celebrating the uniqueness of their place.
