Selected self portraits, Sophie Lindsey, 2020

SOPHIE LINDSEY

Sophie Lindsey is an artist based in Cardiff, who creates work that responds to specific contexts, environments and situations.

Through a visual art, curatorial and writing practice, Sophie works across GIFs, performance, workshops, video, and public-space interventions to create projects that prioritise generosity, understanding and fun!

In 2017, Sophie was selected as one of two artists for our Gene Pool Residency. During this time, Sophie explored Barrow-in-Furness, using Art Gene’s Main Gallery as a base. This resulted in the interventions: What a Lovely Spot For a Picnic; Beds Beds Beds; and Back of Asda Jam, which put brambles from an overgrown brownfield site in conversation with the products sold in supermarkets.

In 2021, Sophie was selected as the next Digital Artist-Curator for our online exhibitions programme Digital U and has now completed three programmes: Digital Notes, 2021; Beyond Breaking Point, 2022; On Repeat, 2023. These have explored themes of food, futures and biodiversity, along with note making, work culture, overproduction, and archives.

Sophie continues to work with us, and is currently planning our 2024 Digital U programme.
