Matt Sanderson

Since moving to Barrow in Furness in 2005, I have been struck both by the beauty of the area, and by the apparent indifference that many hold to this wonderful place.  Through their many and varied community art projects, I believe that Art Gene bring out the grubby gems that can be found all around us, and remind us time after time how lucky we are to live here.

I own and run Furness Mapping Services, a small land and hydrographic survey company; although work has previously taken me all around the world, recently I have spent more and more time in Barrow and, wherever possible, I have taken the opportunity to become involved in community volunteering.

As an active and inquisitive volunteer, I always want to learn more and to share what I have seen and learned with others.  Art Gene has, I believe, have a strong future in helping the people of Barrow better understand and appreciate their surroundings and will help to develop an innovative, imaginative and sustainable social and cultural environment for generations to come.  I feel honoured to be a small part of that!

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Surveying and Mapping, an MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment, and am just (Sept. 2016) embarking on an MSc in Planning at the University of Manchester.
