For one night only, Art Gene are hosting Barra Night Life- a free, bespoke night-time event taking place on Walney Island. An event bringing together Art Gene’s Allotment Soup and Landscape Working Party projects.
The exciting, alternative social event will involve jam making, a night of BBQ’s and bonfires, moth trapping, bat detecting, a walk in the dark and a late-night outdoor cinema with the chance to camp out on the community growing field.
Rigging up, 5 pm
Pitch your tent, build a bonfire and help us rig up for the night ahead.
Jam Session, 6-7 pm
Blackberry picking from the hedgerows on the field, cooking up pots of jam to take home as the BBQ gets going.
Moths, Bats and BBQ’s, 7-10 pm
Join us for a big BBQ and take a close look at some night time flying creatures around our light trap installations. Cooking up some of the home grown produce, this is a social event, a chance to meet new people and have an insight into the less visible species and systems in the natural world. Some food will be provided but you may wish to bring your own BBQ food and drinks.
A Walk in the Dark, 10-11 pm
Bring your torches and venture on a night time walk across the fields.
Open air cinema, 11 pm onwards
SUNDAY 2nd SEPT
Field fry up, 7-9 am
Join us in the morning for a fry up and take a close look at the moths we have captured and help us to identify them.
All ages – including children are very welcome – although they must be supervised at all times. You can join for all or drop in and out for the event, however, advanced booking is essential, especially for those wishing to camp as we have limited tent pitches.
